Raven and the Box of Daylight
by Carter Family Marionettes
November 14-22, 2009

One of the oldest stories told up and down the coast tells how the trickster Raven brings sunlight to the world. Seattle's own Carter Family Marionettes brings this legend to the stage with hand-carved cedar marionettes and masks by Nuu-chah-nulth artist George David. Students will gain appreciation for traditional arts that were a part of everyday life in this region. The performance beautifully incorporates button blankets, bentwood boxes, formline painting, carved cedar house posts and musical score by the Greene and Hottowe families of the Makah Tribe.
