Harlequin's Cloak
This hand-puppet pantomime is inspired by the performances in Copenhagen's beautiful Tivoli
Gardens. Harlequin's Cloak introduces young audiences to the timeless stories of Commedia dell'Arte characters: Harlequin, Columbine and Pierrot. By the mid-15th Century Commedia dell'Arte was known throughout Italy and began to spread across Europe. The traditional cast of characters had a significant presence in the theater of Denmark and France, Moliere's classics can be traced directly to Commedia. The comical Harlequin, the beautiful & clever Columbine, greedy Pantalone and the swash-buckling El Capitano, all star in this original creation by Coad Canada Puppets. Touring across the continent, Harlequin's Cloak has enchanted audiences and gained acclaim with "The Citation of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry" awarded from Union Internationale de la Marionette. The performance is presented on a beautiful proscenium including a Peacock Curtain that folds to the floor in tribute to the original stage at the theater in Tivoli.
